The quiver you never planned to own

Nobody thinks about their skis until they have to.
That's not a knock. Skis are the most boring part of the setup until the day they're suddenly the whole thing.
I live just outside Seattle, which means my ski season runs on two settings. Cascade concrete and the occasional glorious powder day that makes the drive and the ice scraper ritual worth it. If you ski a lot, anywhere, you end up with a quiver. You don't decide to collect skis. It just happens. One day you look in the garage and there are six pairs leaning against the wall and you can explain every one of them.
Powder skis for the storm day. Carvers for when patrol has everything groomed and frozen overnight. Something in between for the days that are all of the above, which around here is most days. The quiver is the answer to the question "what's under your feet today" and you answer it every single morning before you leave.
Then I made a card game about skiing and had to answer it for the game too.
In Max Vert you draw a hand of ski cards before the round. Cascade concrete on the table? Powder skis are suddenly the wrong tool. The same run that's a Send with the right pair under you is a risk with the wrong pair. Different runs want different skis. Picking your loadout is the morning garage decision, compressed onto a hand of cards, and it changes the math on every run you play.
That's the part I wanted to capture, because it's the part of the real sport nobody talks about. The skis are boring right up until they decide your whole day.
